Grammar celebrates Book Week

23 August 2012

Sunshine Coast Grammar was turned into a sea of colour for our annual Book Week celebrations with book characters, fairy tales and mythical legends from ‘Around the World’ coming to life.

An annual tradition at Grammar since the School’s inception in 1997, each year staff and students from across the junior and secondary schools come to school dressed as their favourite book character. This year was no different with members of the School Executive arriving as the cast from the ‘Wizard of Oz’.

Book Week is the longest running children's festival in Australia and will this year celebrate 67 years. Officially celebrated from August 18 – 24, the festivities aim to highlight the importance of reading.

Each year, many schools and public libraries from all over Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers and teacher librarians design activities and offer competitions to encourage children to develop an interest in reading.
