MIDDLE AND SENIOR SCHOOL UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS

Students attending Sunshine Coast Grammar School are expected to maintain the highest standards of personal presentation.  Due attention must be paid to a clean, neat and tidy appearance, both in and out of the School grounds. It is important that all children take pride in their uniform and when wearing it outside the School remember that they are representing Sunshine Coast Grammar School. All students must travel to and from School in full uniform, with the exception of Friday (Middle/Senior School) and Thursday (Junior School) when full sports uniform may be worn to and from school.  Students may not discard various parts of their uniform when travelling to and from school.  If students accompany their parents into shops when travelling home from school, the full school uniform must be worn.

The school formal hat must be worn to and from school each day and to Whole School Assembly. The school formal hat or sports cap must be worn whenever students are in the sun.  Sports cap must be worn when in sports uniform.

HAIR
Students’ hair must be clean, neat, tidy, and ‘off the face’. Boys’ hair should not fall below the collar line. For girls – hair that is shoulder length or longer, must be tied back; hair is to be tied with brown or black hat elastic and a maroon ribbon or scrunchie; and hair clasps are to be only brown or blonde bobby pins. Hair is to appear ‘natural’ at all times and any obvious colour change is not acceptable. Excessive use of hair products also does not meet School expectations. Students with unacceptable hair/cuts/colours/styles risk not being permitted to attend school.

Boys are to be clean shaven at all times.  Sideburns should extend no lower than half-way down the ear-lobe.

JEWELLERY
Students may wear a watch provided it does not detract from the overall appearance of their uniform. Girls may wear one pair of plain sleepers or studs, worn one in each lobe.  No other jewellery is permitted and will be confiscated and returned at the end of the term.  No other visible piercings are allowed (including plastic plugs).

MORNING/AFTERNOON SPORTS PRACTICES
Students may apply to the Dean of Students for a Uniform Pass should they need to come to or from school in sports uniform to attend a Grammar sporting or extra-curricular event.  Students are not to remain in sports uniform all day.  They must change in/out of sports uniform during the breaks (eg. Before school/morning tea/lunch/after school) closest to their sports lesson.

NAMING OF ITEMS
Every item that comes to school should be named, whether it is sports shoes, school shoes, books, stationery, or other personal items.  Often recently purchased items arrive at school, unnamed, and are misplaced.  It is virtually impossible to return lost property if it is unnamed.

“Cash’s” or other sew-on nametags may initially be a little more expensive, however, they will certainly last longer than iron-on labels or marking pen which does wash out after much laundering.  Please ensure that second-hand uniforms purchased from the Uniform Shop have the name of the current owner, not that of the previous owner.

SCHOOL BAGS
The School bag and the School sports bag are available from the Uniform Shop, and are compulsory.

SCHOOL SHOES
Students attending Sunshine Coast Grammar School must wear traditional style black leather lace-up school shoes.  The “in fashion” thick rubber soles or soft leather or skate shoes are not school shoes and are not permitted.  Students wearing incorrect styles will be required to purchase the correct shoes.  If unsure, please consult with the head of Middle or Senior School or the Dean of Students before purchase.  Shoes are to be kept polished and in good order.

SUNSCREEN
Personal sunscreen should be carried to school each day, or as required, by every student – the School considers this to be a family responsibility.

SPRAY JACKET
Maroon spray-jackets are a non-compulsory uniform item and may be worn as an additional garment with the sports uniform.  They are considered part of the sports uniform and may only be worn over the formal uniform to protect it from rain.

SENIOR JERSEY
This is a non-compulsory uniform article available to year 12 students.

TIES
Each sub school has a different tie to differential its students.  The middle school tie is plain maroon and the senior tie is maroon, gold, green and navy striped.  Students must have their ties done up correctly with the shirt top button secure. Boy’s ties may be removed after form and replaced before mark-off in terms 1 & 4.

TOUR JERSEYS
These are non-compulsory uniform articles available to students who participate in school sporting or cultural tours.  Jerseys are part of the sports uniform and may not be worn with the formal uniform.

UNDERWEAR
Underwear should not be visible at any time – this applies to both boys and girls and includes the wearing of colours under white blouses.
