Welcome to our Junior School. My name is Mr Paul Clegg and I am honoured to be the Head of Junior School at Sunshine Coast Grammar School.
Sunshine Coast Grammar School provides an engaging, challenging learning environment with a distinctive level of individual care for each unique child, setting us apart as the school of choice on the Sunshine Coast. As a community of learners we are aware of the importance the Junior School plays in providing fun, stimulating, diverse opportunities to develop and extend the whole child in terms of their intellectual, social, emotional, physical, spiritual and cultural development.
We live in a knowledge society that is ever changing and discovery driven. Our mission is to ensure students are equipped to participate in today and tomorrow’s society and have the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes to be learners for life. To inspire and achieve academic excellence our goal is to provide a level of academic care that is rigorous, provides diverse opportunities and sets the bar high enough to challenge each individual child.
To ensure such high standards of academic care are maintained in and beyond our Junior School, we have employed a full time Assistant Head of Curriculum who works with our dedicated teaching staff to ensure our differentiated curriculum provides continuity of learning from Prep to Year 6 and smooth transitions into the Middle School. Extended curriculum opportunities also exist in many areas throughout the Junior school including singing, instrumental, Individual Research Projects for G&T, tennis school of excellence, rugby, netball, chess, speech and drama.
We have created an environment where learning is stimulating and fun, where opportunities to explore, try and participate are plentiful and where children grow in knowledge and in character. As a PMSA school we teach and model Christian values in our learning community. By modelling and providing an environment of care and being consistent with our high expectations of student behaviour and appearance, we nurture students who display manners, respect, are self disciplined and care for each other, whilst feeling safe and supported. We also recognise the importance of parents and special friends as partners in education, a partnership nurtured in the school and essential for students to achieve to their full potential.
To assist organisationally and to provide the exceptional level of pastoral care Sunshine Coast Grammar is renowned for, our Junior School campus is divided into two sectors, Infants and Primary, both managed by experienced Assistant Heads of School. Each sector of the school is staffed with high quality teachers, many with their Bachelors, Masters and Certificates in Gifted and Talented Education. To add another layer of care for our students we have a full time Educational Psychologist who works with our Learning Enrichment Team to support the individual needs and learning styles of students.
Our unique rainforest learning environment is housed with fully air-conditioned cottages, incorporating cutting edge technology, to ensure our students are nurtured in the best educational environment conducive to learning all year round.
