SCGS Careers

Maria CampaniniWelcome to the Careers department at Sunshine Coast Grammar School.  My name is Ms Maria Campanini and I am the Careers Counsellor at SCGS.

An essential part of the academic program offered to the students of SCGS is the opportunity to access Career Development services provided by the School’s full-time Career Counsellor and the Traineeship Co-ordinatior.

The students are encouraged to participate  in activities that will assist in the development of a customised career action plan that will support effective career decision making.

The type of Career Development services that are available for students from Year 7 – 12 include:

  • Participation in formal Career Education Programs each year from Yr 7 – 12 including guest speakers and the use of computer based career information services
  • Accessing up to date and relevant career and course information
  • Individual career counselling for students
  • Personal consultations for students and their parents regarding career and course decision making matters including tertiary course application processes
  • Optional work experience placements in school holidays facilitated by SCGS and the Sunshine Coast Schools Industry Links Scheme (SCSILS) http://www.scsils.com.au/
  • Referral to services provided by the Youth Pathway Program and Group Training Companies where relevant.
  • The opportunity to participate in a School-based Traineeship if required.

The Career Development Services offered above are delivered through a variety of methods, including:

  • A teacher and a class group of between 25 – 30 students
  • Whole year level activities – assemblies, etc.
  • Individual counselling and student and parent consultations by both the Careers Counsellor and the Traineeship Co-ordinator.
  • Referral to outside providers that work in partnership with SCGS.

COST: All Career Development services are provided at no extra cost to students and parents of SCGS.

Students and Parents who chose to participate in the individual careers counselling services offered by SCGS can be confident that their rights and responsibilities and that of the career practitioner involved will adhere to the Ethic Code of Practice of the Australian Association of Careers Counsellors.
