Students from all ages are able to participate in very well organised competitions. The younger ones play Walla Rugby, which is designed to teach the basic concepts and skills of the game and most importantly, to allow the students to have a great deal of fun in a team sport.
Players will play tackle rugby from U9 upwards. However all players must wear a properly fitted mouthguard for training and matches. Only U11 players are permitted to wear boots with molded or aluminum studs. All other players must wear running shoes. All players involved in rugby will be required to wear a Harlequin rugby shirt, sports shorts and green school rugby socks.
Each team is allocated a coach and you will receive more information regarding training and match arrangements periodically from your coach. All players they will be coached effectively to promote safe body positions in contact and the necessary skills of the game. Coaches of the teams may hold a training sessions after school during the season.
The format of the game changes as the students get older and the modified rules allow for the gradual development of specific skills such as tackling, rucking, mauling, lineouts and scrummaging. The size of the field also increases with the various age groups and the basic aim is always for the boys to enjoy maximum participation in a safe and friendly environment.

A clear code of conduct governing players and spectators is in place. Everyone involved is expected to understand and follow this code for the benefit of all.
The SCGS Rugby Club is extremely well organised thanks to the enthusiastic involvement of a number of dedicated parents and staff. With the help of these exceptional people the development of SCGS Rugby is in good hands and we look forward to a bright and successful future.
