SCGS : House System

House System

Student Welfare at SCGS – the House System

Sunshine Coast Grammar School has a strong emphasis on pastoral care and this is reflected in the approach all staff, including non-teaching staff, display when interacting with students.

Whilst the Junior School classroom teacher is best suited to this Pastoral Care role in the earlier years, the Heads of House play a key pastoral role for the students in the Secondary school. Each student in the Junior, Middle and Senior Schools belongs to one of four Houses - Sturt, Lawson, Chisholm or Bradman.

The House system provides students with a sense of teamwork and pride - as well as a focus for Pastoral Care. 8 staff will be involved in the management positions relating to pastoral care in the Middle and Senior Schools- 4 Heads of House to work with senior students (Years 10-12) and 4 Heads of House will work with students in the Middle School area. It is intended that this will enable staff to maintain a closer contact with students and their families, so support is provided for students to achieve their academic and personal best.
