Chisholm House

Chisholm House

Chisholm House is one of four Houses at Sunshine Coast Grammar School named after famous Australians: Bradman, Lawson, Sturt and Chisholm.

We are named after Caroline Chisholm (1808-1877), an early migrant to Australia who showed tremendous courage, commitment and compassion in her efforts to improve the quality of life of other early female migrants.

She lived in a brutal and harsh society – a society which was not compassionate, and which did not seem to particularly care for the lives of those Caroline Chisholm saved. She stood tall and courageously against many forces because she believed what she was doing was the right thing to do. Her example is one to follow. We are proud to be named in honour of Caroline Chisholm.

Courage. Commitment. Compassion.

Chisholm House Philosophy

In Chisholm, we particularly value the core virtues of Courage, Commitment and Compassion. We must be compassionate towards each other. We must all show commitment to what is right. And we must show courage in everything we do.

We will certainly celebrate victories on the sporting field and high levels of achievement in the classroom, but we will especially celebrate the day when everyone in our house has the courage to do the very best they can in whatever challenge lies in front of them. To us, coming first or second is not as important as being involved and putting in our very best effort.

“Winning isn’t final, losing isn’t fatal, it’s courage that counts.”

In Chisholm House, we have adopted this motto. It is courage that counts in Chisholm

Chisholm Chiefs

Our Mascot is the Chief and our colour is Royal Blue.

The Chief clearly represents our core values of courage, commitment and compassion.

We have adopted various symbols of the Chief for sports events – feathered head dress, blue warpaint and our war cry includes words from a range of indigenous cultures from around the world.

The Chisholm Chiefs have established a strong reputation at the Sunshine Coast Grammar School. We have won our share of Inter-House sporting trophies, but the real highlight has been the willingness of Chisholm Chiefs to participate with courage.
