It has been another successful year for debating at Sunshine Coast Grammar School, with our teams winning both the Intermediate Division (for Years 8-9), as well as the Senior Division (for Years 10-12) on Wednesday, October 24 in the 2018 University of the Sunshine Coast Schools Debating Competition, held at the USC Innovation Centre.
The Senior final saw the experienced Grammar Year 12 team, under the direction of long-term debating coach Mr Robbie Guteridge, take out the Coolum SHS team.
Teacher in Charge of Debating at Sunshine Coast Grammar School, Mrs Meg Dunstan, said that it was an exciting win by the Year 12 team, who have competing together with Mr Guteridge since Year 7.
“The debates were of an exceptionally high standard and we are incredibly proud of all our debaters who took part in the competition,” said Meg Dunstan.
“As debating becomes more prominent on the Sunshine Coast we are proud to say that Grammar debaters are leading the way.”
More than 100 teams from as far as Beerwah in the south to Noosa in the north participated in the 2018 competition.
Earlier in the year, Sunshine Coast Grammar School also finished in fourth place for overall champion school for the year in the Queensland Debating Union competition held in Brisbane.
