Sunshine Coast Grammar School fielded 13 Secondary Debating Teams across two competitions this week, winning 11 debates.
This week of the eight of the teams which competed across three divisions in the local Sunshine Coast Schools Debating completion, seven teams came away with the win.
In the Queensland Debating Union Championships Finals held in Brisbane, of the five Grammar teams which competed four were victorious and will now progress through to the quarter finals round, placing them in the top 8 schools across two divisions, Year 11 and Year 8.
Coordinator of Debating at Sunshine Coast Grammar School, Mrs Meg Dunstan is incredibly proud of these students and says that given that 64 teams from across Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast began the finals in the Year 8 division, to have two teams in the top 8 in the Year 8 quarter finals, as well as the two teams in the Year 11 quarter finals, is a massive achievement.
“It has been challenging travelling to Brisbane every week for the finals, including some teams having to leaving school camp to compete. However, these students have risen to the challenge and done their school proud,” said Mrs Dunstan.
The quarter finals will take place at Brisbane Grammar School next Friday, August 17 evening at 6.45pm.
