Sunshine Coast Grammar School student, Kasey Dalziel has been selected in the U18’s Australian Water Polo team and is preparing to make her mark at the upcoming world championships in Serbia next month.
This is the third time that Kasey has been selected in the national team and it probably won’t been the last, as the talented 16 year old has her sights set firmly on making the Open Women’s Australian Water Polo team in the near future.
The upcoming world championship event is a major benchmark for the next generation of players aiming to reach the Olympic Games.
The announcement of the team over the weekend left Kasey with a feeling of relief and excitement. Kasey says that it has taken a lot of hard work and determination to make the cut.
“For the past three years there have been about 20 girls in the training team and each time a team gets selected players would get dropped,” said Kasey.
“We just had a week long training camp in Sydney which was great to be able to play some games with the girls. We will be able to train as a team again in three weeks’ time in Hungry and Greece where we will have mini tournaments in preparation for the world championships in Belgrade,” said Kasey.
“Once I finish my studies I hope to be playing overseas either in Europe or the USA and hope to go on to make an Olympic Team.”
