Sunshine Coast Grammar School Welcomes Gordon Bray as Rugby Ambassador

Sunshine Coast Grammar School community gathered in droves over the weekend for our inaugural Rugby Principal’s Cup, marking a historic moment for the school’s rugby program with the official introduction of our new Rugby Academy Ambassador, Gordon Bray AM.

Gordon Bray is an icon in Australian sports commentary and journalism, with over 55 years in the broadcast media industry. His presence at the event was met with enthusiasm and his live commentary of the First XV match against rival school Brisbane Boys’ College (BBC) added a memorable experience for both players and spectators, and will be etched in Grammar Rugby’s history.

Known as “The Voice of Rugby”, Gordon Bray has expressed his excitement at the new development and is eager to continue to develop pathways from Grammar Rugby to the professional arena.

“As patron, I look forward to a productive and very special association with the Sunshine Coast Grammar School Rugby Academy”.

His appreciation for the school’s sporting culture was evident as he praised the passion and dedication displayed on the field.

“It was inspiring to witness the sheer pride in representing your school and leaving nothing on the field at the final whistle,” said Gordon.

The new Ambassadorship with Gordon Bray and renowned coaching staff, including former All Blacks player Hosea Gear, our Academy is poised to become a premier institution for Rugby training and development for both male and female athletes.

Sunshine Coast Grammar School has a rich history of success, having dominated regional competitions for the past 15 years and produced numerous Wallabies and international rugby union players, including Tate McDermott, Carter Gordon, Louis Werchon, Blake Enever and Georgia Flood.

The Academy continues to be a top performer, and in 2024 had four student athletes secure a place in the prestigious Australian School Rugby Squad, the highest number of students from one school selected for the team.

We extend our gratitude to Gordon Bray for his contribution and commitment as our Rugby Academy Ambassador. We look forward to his ongoing involvement in shaping the next generation of Grammar Rugby talent.

A special thank you to our sponsors, whose generous support ensures that our players have the opportunities to grow, compete and succeed at the highest level.

With a strong tradition of excellence, Sunshine Coast Grammar School continues to lead the way in shaping the future of aspiring student athletes and providing unparalleled opportunities for them to thrive at the highest level.
