On the back of just three competitive swimming seasons, Sunshine Coast Grammar Swimming has firmly cemented their dominance in the pool at the recent Queensland Swimming Championships placing in the top ten clubs in the State.
Established in 2018 under the able direction of Head Coach Luke Stafford, Sunshine Coast Grammar Swimming has gone from strength to strength. With well over 100 Clubs competing at the 2021 Queensland Swimming Championships, held at Chandler Aquatic Centre in Brisbane from 11-17 December, Sunshine Coast Grammar Swimming finished in 9th position overall.
The club saw 31 swimmers compete in the championship, fielding 36 relay teams and achieving 135 personal best times over the week. Sunshine Coast Grammar Swimmers hauled in 10 Gold, 15 Silver and 19 Bronze medals throughout the competition while Ryan Bambach and Kael Thompson were the stand out performers at the meet, taking home 18 medals between them.
Sunshine Coast Grammar Swimming finished top of the table for clubs north of Brisbane, outperforming all other swim clubs on the Sunshine Coast. Head of Swimming at Sunshine Coast Grammar Mr Luke Stafford is incredibly proud of each of his swimmers for their hard work, determination and willingness to succeed.
“These swimmers have certainly put in the hard yards and it’s great to see them reaping the rewards.” Said Mr Stafford.
Over the past ten years, Mr Luke Stafford has been involved as a Coach or Manager on numerous Brisbane and Queensland swim teams. Prior to joining Sunshine Coast Grammar Swimming, Luke spent five years at St Rita’s College in Brisbane and also spent seven years at the Queensland Academy of Sport.
“Sunshine Coast Grammar Swimming is still a relatively new outfit with a young membership base, so for the Club to be performing at this level is a real testament to the calibre and talent amongst our swimmers, which we endeavour to continue to nurture and develop as our swimmers mature,” said Mr Stafford.
“We are beginning to see a really good depth and breadth of talent within our team, fielding competitors from U12’s right through to the open division. As we lead into the National Championships to be held in Adelaide in April, all eyes will be on our young guns as some of them step up to the blocks at the National Championships for the first time as well as our Seniors vying for Queensland and Australian Team selection.”
