After another successful year of Year 12 results, we are additionally proud to celebrate the outstanding academic achievement of Nicholas Heeks. He was one of only nine students invited to a special ATAR ceremony this morning at QTAC in Brisbane, after achieving an ATAR of 99.95.

Nicholas is Sunshine Coast Grammar School’s top-performing ATAR student, who achieved an extraordinary academic milestone by earning a perfect score and the prestigious QCAA Certificate of Academic Commendation.

On achieving a perfect ATAR score, Nicholas said, “It feels great knowing that the hard work paid off.”

“I have been surrounded by super supportive friends – that definitely made the journey a lot easier and my teachers were great, and all really approachable.”

Reflecting on his success, Nicholas credits the support of his teachers, including Ms Franklin, who ignited his passion for mathematics.

“Mrs Franklin made maths fun for us and ignited my interest in the subject. She would make us do star jumps to help us remember our prime numbers,” said Nicholas.

“I enjoy problem solving so that’s why I went down that maths and science route and I like knowing how the world operates in the financial space. I wanted to do economics, and it scales well, which is a big bonus.”

As Nicholas reflects on his final year, some of his best memories are with his friends.

“I enjoyed physics with my mates, having a laugh playing rugby and winning the grand final in extra time,” added Nicholas.

Nicholas plans to study a Bachelor of Actuarial Studies at Macquarie University in Sydney.

In addition, an impressive 20 prestigious QCAA Certificates of Commendation were awarded to our students.

Mrs Anna Owen, Principal of Sunshine Coast Grammar School, expressed her pride in the graduating class, recognising their outstanding achievements as a result of many years of hard work and dedication, supported by a personalised and nurturing learning environment.
