Sunshine Coast Grammar’s number one tennis player, Alex Anderson (Year 12), has enjoyed an outstanding year of representative success, captaining the Queensland team at the School Sport Australia National Tennis Championships in Perth this month.

Alex was selected as Queensland Boys Captain following a dominant performance at the Queensland Representative School Sport State Tennis Championships, winning the State Champion title without dropping a set. This result confirmed Alex as Queensland’s number one player heading into the national championships.

The national event included team and individual competitions, played on grass courts. Despite limited experience on the surface, Alex adapted quickly.

In the individual competition, Alex progressed to the quarter-finals, narrowly losing to the tournament’s number one seed in a close match that included a match point opportunity.

Alex played a key role in the team competition, winning all singles matches except one, which came against the same opponent faced in the individual event. Queensland finished the championships in third place overall.

As a result of performances across both competitions, Alex was selected in the All Australian Team, a significant honour and a fitting reward for his dedication and hard work on the court.

Earlier in the year, Alex also gained invaluable high-performance experience as an official hitting partner at the Brisbane International, training alongside some of the world’s leading tennis players. These achievements also represent an important step towards Alex’s USA college pathway next year.

Sunshine Coast Grammar congratulates Alex on an exceptional year of achievement and leadership while representing both Queensland and the School with distinction.
