Teaching with Impact
As part of Sunshine Coast Grammar School's ongoing commitment to professional excellence, teachers recently attended the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) Summit in Canberra. Guided by the theme Innovate, Elevate, Celebrate, the summit recognised educators across Australia who are advancing professional practice to improve outcomes for students, colleagues and schools.
At Grammar, professional growth is not viewed as an endpoint, but as an ongoing commitment to personalised education. Our teachers continually refine their practice to better understand and respond to the individual needs of each student, ensuring learning is purposeful, engaging and impactful.
Research continues to affirm the importance of this work. A 2022 QUT study highlights the significant influence of Highly Accomplished and Lead Teachers as middle leaders, particularly through the strength of their relationships with students, colleagues and the broader school community. This relational approach is central to personalised education, where connection, understanding and responsiveness underpin effective teaching.
Our own Highly Accomplished and Lead Teachers, including Mel Barber, Paul Anderson, Joe Watson, Christine Potts, Callum Brown and Meg Dunstan, exemplify this impact. Their leadership extends beyond the classroom into curriculum development, mentoring early career teachers, contributing to policy, and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement across the School.
A number of our teachers also undertook the rigorous process of preparing portfolios for national certification. This reflects a deep professional commitment to excellence and a shared belief that ongoing development directly enhances student learning experiences.
