Sunshine Coast Grammar School Student Selected for Prestigious Young Leaders Academy

Sunshine Coast Grammar School is proud to announce that Year 12 student and School Captain Alex Pennay, has been selected as one of eight outstanding young individuals to represent the region on the Sunshine Coast Council’s Young Leaders Academy.

Facilitated by Council’s Community Development Officer Daniel Gettis, community thought leader Peter Westoby and Kabi Kabi leader Tyrone Bean, the Academy has come together to inspire and achieve community action.

Following a rigorous interview process, the Council offered places to eight successful applicants, aged from 16 – 25 years. Alex is thrilled about the opportunity and expressed her enthusiasm for stepping out of her comfort zone to make a positive impact in our community.

“I feel privileged to play a part in this journey. The Academy has already provided us with expansive insights into community and social change work,” said Alex.

The year-long program aims to increase and strengthen civic leadership, participatory and community action. Alex is particularly passionate about addressing crucial yet often overlooked issues with the region, such as combatting normalised racism, homelessness, toxic stereotypes and impoverished and outcast communities.

Throughout the comprehensive program, Alex will hone essential leadership skills and gain a deep understanding of participatory and community leadership practices.

“The Academy’s mission to nurture a generation of leaders who actively contribute to the Sunshine Coast community aligns with my passion for participation and hands-on community interaction,” said Alex.

Sunshine Coast Grammar School extends its warmest congratulations to Alex Pennay on this remarkable achievement, and we eagerly anticipate the impact she will undoubtedly make as a representative of our school and community.
