Sunshine Coast Grammar rising chess stars secure spot in State finals

On Monday, Sunshine Coast Grammar School hosted over 340 students from 10 schools across the region to take part in the Inter-school Teams Chess Tournament.

Grammar had 48 Primary and Secondary students compete with resounding success, including the Secondary Premier Division team finishing second amongst some of the strongest chess players in the region and securing a spot in the State Finals next term.

Armed with a profound understanding of chess dynamics, students navigated through challenges with determination, showcasing their tactical skills.   

The Secondary Open Division team demonstrated exceptional strategic skills, securing a commendable third place. The Primary Premier Division team also showcased their abilities, achieving a respectable fourth-place finish.

Thirteen students were also honoured with well-deserved merit ribbons, with many placing in the top three of their division.

The highly competitive tournament sees students from across the Sunshine Coast region come together and showcase their unique skills and mastery.

Sunshine Coast Grammar School hosted the competition for the second consecutive year in conjunction with Gardiner Chess.
