Sunshine Coast Grammar School is proud to host the upcoming Regional da Vinci Decathlon Championships for the third consecutive year and is set to welcome over 600 students from across the Sunshine Coast and surrounding South East Queensland regions.
The two-day event is an academic competition designed to stimulate the minds of young students from Year 5 to Year 10, across a variety of disciplines including engineering, mathematics, code-breaking, art and poetry, science, English, ideation, creative producers, cartography and legacy.
Mrs Brenda Gahan, Head of Extended Learning at Sunshine Coast Grammar School, expresses her excitement, stating, “This event not only showcases the academic talents of our students but also highlights the collaborative spirit and innovative thinking that define our region.”
“Hosting the Regional da Vinci Decathlon is a testament to our commitment to championing regional education and fostering a culture of excellence in learning,” said Mrs Gahan.
What began as a local competition in Sydney has flourished and grown to be a national and global phenomenon, involving thousands of students from Years 5 to 10 across Australia.
The competition places a particular emphasis on higher-order thinking skills, problem solving and creativity. The purpose of the event is to connect like-minded peers from different schools, celebrate students’ passions, and make friendships that last beyond the competition.
Sunshine Coast Grammar students have placed strongly in all divisions in the Regional Championships since the competition’s inception in 2022 and earned places in the State Championships, where they compete against the brightest minds in the state. Last year, the Year 9 team earned a place in the National Finals for the first time in the school’s history, placing first and second across three disciplines.
Sunshine Coast Grammar School remains committed to supporting our students in their academic and co-curricular pursuits, preparing them to be the innovators and leaders of tomorrow.
We are looking forward to welcoming all teams across the region and sharing in the passion they will bring to each day of the competition.
